On Tuesday, I told you how the Department of Veterans Administration planned to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for all its employees.
Well, in today’s edition of COVID-19 safety one-upmanship, NBC News is reporting that “President Joe Biden is expected to announce [today] that federal workers will be required to be vaccinated for Covid or abide by stringent protocols, like regular testing and mask-wearing, according to administration officials.”
CNN (here) had a similar report. The CNN article also notes that “the proposal will be roughly similar to what is being implemented in New York City.” I talked about that NYC mandate on Tuesday. Also, the mandate will not extend to the U.S. military.
President Biden’s comments on Tuesday may have foreshadowed further immediate action:
“We have a pandemic because the unvaccinated and they’re sowing enormous confusion. And the more we learn about this virus and the Delta variation, the more we have to be worried and concerned. And there’s only one thing we know for sure, if those other hundred million people got vaccinated, we’d be in a very different world.”
He didn’t sugarcoat it either. “If you’re not vaccinated, you’re not nearly as smart as I thought you were,” he added.
And in what could be considered burying the lede, the U.S. Justice Department has officially opined that federal law does not prevent private businesses from mandating employee vaccinations, too, even though the COVID-19 vaccine is only subject to an emergency use authorization.
Yesterday, Google and other companies instituted a vaccine mandate for employees returning to the office. And WaPo, the day before that.
So, that begs the question: What’s your business going to do about mandating employee vaccinations?
I’ve got an anonymous ten-second COVID-19 mandatory vaccination poll all set up for you. All you have to do is click here and take it. I’ll post the results tomorrow.
